Two sensors are enough. Put them side by side along any track, i.e., any circle on the disk with the disk's center as its center. Say the sensors are A and B clockwise. After both sensors pickup the same color, if A detects the change of color before B does, then the disk rotates clockwise. Otherwise, the disk rotates counter-clockwise.
