The two answers for No. 4 (as well as my own answer) are structually the same. I solved it this way: Start with one line and two points on the line. Draw three other lines from each point. These six lines intersect and form a " 田字". Adjust the "田字" so that its two diagonals intersect the original line. As far as I know, 9 is the best known result for 13 trees. The exact upper bound is still unknown, that is, no one proved it is not possible to have 10 rows, and no one did it either. |
Recently problem 4 appeared at WXC, with a ranking similar to the following: 6 rows : High School Nice to see some Ph.D's here . There is only one Master and some Bachelors at WXC. |

You are right. I did not notice this problem. It seems that only two people at WXC tried, and these two guys are not among the best there. |
