Nat King Cole纳·京·科尔的一生中有两段相互重迭的经历。他是为数不多的真正的摇摆乐钢琴家之一。一方面他的演奏深受Earl Hines的激励；另一方面他又影响了另外一位大师奥斯卡·彼得森。
纳·京·科尔原名Nathaniel Adams Cole，1919年3月17日出生于蒙哥马利，在芝加哥长大，在他只有十二岁时他在教堂里演奏管风琴同时演唱。他的三个兄弟埃迪、弗雷德和伊萨克后来也都成为了爵士乐音乐家。

Nat King Cole堪称美国音乐史上最具歌声独特性的歌手，他的嗓音兼具了爵士乐的随性神采、big band的即兴风雅、节奏蓝调的专注深情与传统流行乐的优雅神韵，透过这样的嗓音特质，Nat King Cole用歌声编织了非常多样的情境感受：神秘、浪漫、典雅、忧郁、伤感、热情、奔放、慵懒、自在、闲适、安详、静谧，创造了一个让世界为之神魂颠倒的传奇金嗓。

1965年2月15日，纳·京·科尔被肺癌夺去了生命，时年47岁。
